RAWALPINDI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Wednesday announced that it had decided to increase checked-in-baggage allowance by 15 kilograms, for all classes of domestic flights on the eve of Eidul Fitr.

PIA spokesman Abdullah Hafeez Khan said that customers will be entitled to free baggage allowances of 35 kgs of checked-in baggage on domestic flights. “Travellers will be able to carry 15kg of more luggage on domestic flights,” Mr Hafeez said, adding this was a gift on the eve of Eidul Fitr to customers from PIA’s chief executive officer and the traveler can carry 35kg instead of 20.

He said the allowance will be only for Eidul Fitr, as part of the airlines’ commitment to constantly enhance customer service. The government restarted limited domestic flight operation from five major airports – Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta from Saturday May 16, 2020 due to growing demand and ease in coronavirus restrictions across the country.

However, the government extended suspension of international flight operations till Sunday May 31.

The Aviation Division has already issued standard operating procedures for domestic passengers and chartered flight operations including disinfection of the aircraft prior to boarding, at least one vacant seat between the passengers and compulsory wearing of masks and use of hand sanitiser.
