Kids, today’s craft is a mix of fun and art, it’s a cat you will create with foam sheet strips on a canvas. The difficult part for some of you will be the drawing, for which I suggest you take the assistance from your elder sibling or a parent.

The end result, which you can see in the final picture, is amazing and you can hang it where everyone could see your creativity.

Things you need:

  1. Foam sheets of any two colours; in my case blue and purple.

  2. Different coloured foam or felt strips around dozen (sizes vary, from two-inch length to five-inch)

  3. White glue or hot glue

  4. A 12-inch piece of white string

  5. Cardboard or hard paper to paste your kitty on

  6. Scissors

  7. Pencil

  8. White paper

Directions:

  1. On a white paper, draw a vase-shape (6 inches length maximum, 4 inches width), two ears (2 inches length), an oval (3.5 inches length-wise) and two circles for eyes (1-inch in total; one bit a smaller than the other); these sizes are according to the kitty I was making, yours can differ but keep in accordance with the main body that is the vase-shape, picture 2.

  2. Cut these all out carefully, picture 3.

  3. These are our samples to accurately cut out the same from the blue and purple foam sheets, picture 4.

  4. On a hard brown paper, paste the head which is the oval piece, horizontally on the main body (shaped like a vase), and ears behind the head, and eyes on their respective places, picture 5.

  5. Cut two small eye circles from the black foam sheet and paste them inside the white space of the eyes; cut a small orange triangle and paste it in place of the nose, picture 6.

  6. Cut 7 inches from the white string and paste it at the bottom of the main body; to give a funky look, twirl it; cut 3 inches from the remaining string and paste it at the mouth of the kitty in shape of “w”, picture 7.

  7. Let’s bring colour to our kitty with the colourful foam sheet strips; start pasting strips from the bottom of the main body; picture 8.

  8. Keep pasting strips by giving a bit of space between them, picture 9.

  9. In the same way, paste the strips on the ears, picture 10.

  10. From the remaining string, make a loop and paste it behind the canvas.

Note: The stars and moon in the main picture are optional.
