SWABI: The Election Commission of Pakistan has started verification of voters in Swabi district.

Sources told this correspondent on Saturday that the district officers of ECP held a meeting with the staff nominated for different regions who were briefed about the verification process.

The task would be completed in phases, the sources said, adding that in the current phase only the area and address had been recorded and in the next phase names of the voters would also be mentioned in the list given by the district office of ECP to the staff concerned.

They said that there was different staff for the urban and rural areas.

The verification was being done by the staff, mostly teachers of the government schools who had already performed the duty and faced no problem in fulfilling the task in the past.

The sources said that the basic objective of the verification was that the voters could shift their vote from their temporary address to the place of their origin/ birth, but the choice would be that of the voters.

They said that the ECP was taking steps for making the entire process of voting more transparent.
