Shahi Mahal

Published December 28, 2018

KHAIRPUR district in Sindh was a princely state and ruled by the royal Talpur family which built many structures which are now considered heritage sights.

One of them is Shahi Mahal located at the Kotdiji town.

Shahi Mahal is a massive architectural piece built by the Talpurs. Also called Shish Mahal, it was constructed by Mir Faiz Muhammad Khan Talpur I in 1890 A.D. The interior of the corridor is supported by walls and roofs. It has been decorated by colourful patterns. Tiny pieces of mirror have been used expertly in the ceiling which also has wood work.

Now this treasure is being converted into a ruin because of sheer neglect. The authorities concerned should preserve and save this heritage sight from further decay.
