LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday restrained the National Accountability Bureau from extending any harassment to employees of Ramzan Sugar Mills, believed to be owned by the Sharif family, and also sought a reply about inquiry against the mills.

The mills administrator filed a petition contending through a counsel that the NAB initiated an inquiry against environment pollution allegedly being caused by the mills.

The counsel argued that the NAB had no jurisdiction to hold an inquiry into a matter relating to environment pollution. Moreover, he said the bureau had been causing harassment to the officers and staff of the mills.

He asked the court to set aside the inquiry initiated by the NAB against the mills for being without lawful authority and also to restrain it from harassing the mills’ employees.

A two-judge bench, headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, sought a report from NAB on the legality of the impugned inquiry and restrained it from extending any harassment to the mills’ employees. The hearing was adjourned till Nov 13.

OBJECTION: PML-N candidate for Senate by-poll Saud Aziz has filed a petition in the LHC challenging nomination papers of PTI’s Walid Iqbal.

Aziz contended through his counsel that Mr Iqbal concealed details of his assets and foreign tours in the papers. He said objections were raised before the ECP at the time of scrutiny but the returning officer accepted the papers of the PTI candidate.

The petitioner asked the court to reject nomination papers of the respondent and declare him ineligible to contest the Senate by-poll.

Justice Farooq Haider will take up the plea on Wednes-day.
