ISLAMABAD: Residents of D-12 on Tuesday observed the World Water Day by staging a protest against water crisis in their areas.

They blamed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for the water crisis in their sector.

“The world is demanding safe drinking water but here we don’t have even water supply system let alone safe drinking water,” said Mohammad Siddique, a water expert.

Islamabad is being supplied water from Simly and Khanpur dams, while a large area including the I-series sectors are being supplied water through a network of pipelines connected with tube wells. However, in D-12 most of the houses have carried out ‘boring’.

“But the most serious issue with this setup is that water table drops sharply due to over extraction,” Mr Siddique said.

On the other hand, the CDA spokesman said that the civic body was developing an infrastructure in the sector D-12 and the water supply system would be established in the area.

As efficient water management does not seem to be the priority of the CDA, the situation could be bleak for the city as its population grows.

Reducing and safely treating and reusing wastewater, in agriculture and aquaculture, protects worker, farmers and consumers promotes food security, health and wellbeing.
