MARDAN: Two people, including nazim of Chamdhari union council, were killed while another received multiple bullet wounds when armed persons opened fire during a jirga here on Friday.

The Chora police station officials said that nazim Subhanullah Babu was busy in a jirga session to resolve a dispute between two groups when his rivals entered the hujra and opened indiscriminate fire, killing him on the spot, while two others were injured.

The injured were taken to hospital where doctors referred them to Peshawar in precarious condition. However, one of the injured, Sherzada, 50, died on way to Peshawar. The other was identified as Nasir, 45.

The preliminary investigations revealed that the cause of the firing was a 20-year-old enmity between the slain UC nazim and the alleged killers, while the injured persons were outsiders who were present at the jirga.

The officials said that the alleged killers managed to flee the spot soon after the crime. The police registered FIR on the complaint of Shahab, nephew of the slain nazim, against three accused, including Wali, Ibrar and Jabar.

The police were conducting raids over the suspected hideouts to arrest the accused.
