ISLAMABAD: The Senate unanimously passed a resolution, on Monday, requiring the government to take immediate steps for the provision of clean drinking water in Islamabad capital territory.

The resolution was moved by retired Colonel Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi.

The minister for information, broadcasting and national heritage, Pervaiz Rashid, informed the house that Islamabad had around 133 villages.

The schemes for providing clean drinking water to 65 villages had been completed; the work in 55 villages is still underway, while 10 schemes have been delayed due to different disputes.

He regretted that the people, who had governed the country for the last 13 years, did not focus on providing clean drinking water to the masses.

“This is a criminal negligence, and the mover of the resolution should suggest the punishment for them,” he added.

Pervaiz Rashid said that the members of the house, from both sides of the isle, were unanimous that the steps should be initiated to provide clean drinking water to the people without any delay.
