RAWALPINDI: Tight security for the Muharram activities apart, the city police have been unsparing to those violating ban on the misuse of loudspeakers and so-called “illegal” religious procession.

Airport police registered the latest such case against Rahat Kazmi and Qamar Zaidi who organised the mourning procession of Imambargah Asna-a-Ashree, located in Gracy Line, close to the Nur Khan Airbase, on the charge of violating the ban on use of loudspeaker under Section 6 of Punjab Sound System Ordinance.

A suicide bomber had targeted the Imambargah on December 17, 2013, killing four persons - two mourners attending the majlis and two policemen on guard there.

Violations of the bans on loudspeakers and unauthorised processions were also reported from Qasr-i-Hasnain, Pirwadhai, Gujar Khan and Rawat, areas in Rawalpindi.

As many as 70 mourners were booked in Sadiqbad locality of the city overnight for taking out an unauthorised procession from Imambargah Qasr-i-Sajjad and resisting police intervention. However no arrest was made by the police.
