THATTA, Sept 6: A large number of unemployed youth and members of civil society staged a sit-in in front of the DCO office in presence of the Sindh Minister for Culture Sassui Palijo here on Tuesday.

The minister was presiding over a meeting at the DCO office.

The protest demonstration was in protest against denial of jobs and unabated recruitment of outsiders in several departments.

Led by leaders of Thatta Berozgar Committee, including Inayat Ali Shah, Ms Noor Khatoon, Mumtaz Shaikh, Dilawar Shaikh, Faiz Shoro and Ghani Brohi, they raised slogans and burnt copies of their academic certificates.

The leaders claimed that unemployed youth of Thatta were being deprived of their right. They said ministers appointed their relatives in various departments of the district.

Only last year, over 300 people were given jobs here by the provincial ministers and elected representatives to their relatives.

They said the Berozgar Committee Youth had been demonstrating for the last one month and also offered to sell their kidneys and children because of poverty.

But no of legislator bothered to redress their grievances.

They claimed that due to joblessness, their family members were on the verge of starvation.

Later, Ms Palijo met the protesters and assured them that their grievances would be redressed. The protesters later dispersed.
