QUETTA, July 9: Pakistan People’s Party candidate Mir Abdul Rehman Jamali was unofficially declared the winner of by-election for the PB-26 (Jaffarabad-II) seat on Saturday.

According to unofficial results, Mr Jamali bagged 21,900 votes in the 83 polling stations while his rival Naeem Khosa of the Pakistan Muslim League-N bagged 9,273 votes.

A total number of 26 candidates were contesting the by-election on the seat that fell vacant when Mir Zahoor Hussain Khosa was unseated by Supreme Court because of dubious educational qualifications.

In the 2008 general election, Mr Khosa was declared winner over his rival Mir Abdul Rehman Jamali.

President of PPP Balochistan Mir Sadiq Ali Umrani congratulated Mr Jamali on his success and said that his victory proved that the people of Pakistan were with the PPP and its leadership.
