Gamblers held

TAXILA, Dec 3: Police on Friday raided a gambling den and arrested five persons.

Police said acting on a tip-off, a gambling den on Faisal Shaheed Road near Christian Hospital was raided. Aziz Ullah, Aftab Ahmed, Dilawar Khan, Abdul Ghafoor and Naseem Khan were arrested but two others, Salahuddin and Malik Mohammad Muslim, managed to escape. —Correspondent

Missing man’s body recovered

ATTOCK, Dec 3: The body of a man who went missing two months back was recovered from the courtyard of a home where his killers had buried him, police said.

The police have also arrested the two alleged killers. Abdul Rashid, resident of Gulyal village, had told Fatehjang police station that his 45-year-old brother Abdul Waheed was missing for the last two months.

Police said a few days back the deceased’s son was informed by some locals that his father was allegedly killed by Noor Khan and Souba Khan over a theft incident. The locals said the killers buried the body in their home’s courtyard. In a raid the police arrested the two killers and recovered body from their home. The body was handed over to relatives after postmortem and a murder case was registered against two killers. —Correspondent

Test, interview postponed ISLAMABAD, Dec 3: Test and interviews for the gazetted and non-gazetted posts in the National Assembly Secretariat was to be conducted at Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi respectively from December 7 have been postponed, says a press release of the National Assembly Secretariat on Friday.

The call letters issued to candidates by secretariat in this connection, may be considered as cancelled. The fresh letters for test and interview for the posts will be issued later on.

Zebra crossing vanishing

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3: Zebra Crossings on different roads of the federal capital painted by civic body have begun vanishing and giving the look of patches, suggesting poor quality material was used.

It has become difficult to ascertain in many cases whether they were painted as zebra crossing as these have disappeared from almost all main intersections.

Vehicle owners complained that substandard and poor quality material was used by the contractors to paint these crossings on all intersections.—APP

Old man booked

ATTOCK, Dec 3: The city Police have registered a case against a rich old man on the charges of kidnapping a teenage girl for third marriage, police sources said.

Police sources disclosed that a woman filed a complaint with Attock city Police station that over 60 year old local rich merchant had proposed her 20 year young daughter “N” Bibi for marriage, but she refused.

On Wednesday, her daughter was found missing from the house, when she and her husband returned home in the evening from their native village. The woman suspected that old man was behind the kidnapping. —Correspondent

Obituary

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3: Mother of former Dawn correspondent, Rafaqat Ali, presently working in BBC London, and Liaquat Ali, passed away in Islamabad on Friday after protracted illness.

She will be buried in her native village, Jhalay, in Chakwal. Her funeral prayers will be held at 11am on Saturday.
