MITHI: At least five people, including a child, were killed and 20 others seriously injured on Thursday when a dumper truck collided with a passenger coaster on the Mithi-Badin road in Tharparkar, rescue officials said.

The coaster was carrying more than 50 men, women and children from Bheel Colony in Naukot. They were returning home after attending a religious festival in Diplo when the accident occurred.

Rescue teams shifted the bodies and the injured to Civil Hospital Mithi, where a large number of residents gathered to assist the victims and donate blood.

Tharparkar Deputy Commissioner Abdul Haleem Jagirani and SSP also visited the hospital to oversee the emergency response and treatment arrangements for the injured.

Taking notice of the accident, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the district administration and rescue agencies to expedite relief operations and ensure the immediate transfer of the injured to hospitals. He expressed grief over the loss of five lives, extending condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families.
