KARACHI: Over half a dozen robbers entered a trader’s house in Gadap City early on Monday morning, held the residents hostage at gunpoint and looted Rs2.4 million cash and nearly 200 tolas of gold worth approximately 84m, police said.

Malir SSP Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada told Dawn that eight armed men entered the house of a rice trader in Kirpalani Villas Society at around 3am. They held the family hostage at gunpoint, thoroughly searched the house and took away the valuables. The robbers remained inside the house until 5:15am.

As per the FIR registered on the complaint of Dharmoo Mal, the complainant stated that he was at his home in Hindu Mohalla, Gadap Town, when the armed robbers took away 170-200 tolas of gold ornaments, 250-300 tolas of silver, Rs2.4 million to Rs2.5m in cash, prize bonds worth Rs10,000 to Rs15,000, and two mobile phones.

The complainant said he called Madadgar-15, following which Gadap City police, along with the Crime Scene Unit, arrived at the scene and collected evidence.

Police have registered an FIR under Sections 395 (robbery committed by five or more people) and 397 (robbery with attempt to cause grievous hurt) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
