LAHORE: More than 4,000 officers and personnel have been deployed for the security of 222 cattle markets across the province, including Lahore.
On the directions of Punjab Inspector General Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem, strict security arrangements were being ensured at cattle markets across the province on the occasion of Eidul Azha, while officers and personnel of the Punjab Police were performing their duties on high alert for the protection of buyers and traders.
A Punjab Police spokesperson said that more than 600 police officers and personnel had been deployed for the security of six cattle markets in Lahore.
IGP Kareem said that comprehensive measures should be ensured for the security of traders and citizens at cattle markets. No cattle market would be allowed at any place other than the points approved by the district administration, while legal action would be taken against illegal cattle markets and sale points.

He further said that an effective patrolling plan should be formulated for the suppression of fraudsters, pickpockets and criminal elements, while patrolling teams including the Police Response Units should continue effective patrolling around cattle markets.
The spokesperson further said that 150 officers and personnel had been deployed for the security of 23 cattle markets in the Sheikhupura Region. In Gujranwala Region, 525 officers and personnel were deployed for the security of 44 cattle markets. In Rawalpindi Region, more than 340 officers and personnel had been deployed for the security of 22 cattle markets.
In Sargodha Region, 170 officers and personnel were performing duties for the security of 22 cattle markets. In Faisalabad, more than 538 officers and personnel were deployed for the security of 19 cattle markets. In Multan, more than 480 officers and personnel had been deployed for the security of 20 cattle markets.
In Sahiwal, more than 230 officers and personnel were deployed for the security of 11 cattle markets. In Bahawalpur, more than 410 officers and personnel were performing security duties at 29 cattle markets, while in DG Khan, more than 210 officers and personnel had been deployed for the security of 26 cattle markets.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to ensure foolproof security arrangements during Chand Raat and Eidul Azha across the province, with strict implementation of security SOPs.
Chairing a meeting on Eid security and administrative arrangements, she ordered installation of metal detectors and walkthrough gates at Eid congregations and directed assistant commissioners to meet religious scholars and brief them on the government’s security and cleanliness measures for Eid.
She ordered extraordinary security arrangements at sensitive places and directed authorities to ensure patrolling in markets on Chand Raat along with deployment of women police personnel.
The CM also directed officials to ensure real-time monitoring through the Safe City system during security operations and ordered strict implementation of the ban on camps established by proscribed organisations for collection of sacrificial hides.
She further directed district police officers to personally visit areas to ensure enforcement of the ban on camps set up by banned outfits and ordered authorities to prevent dissemination of hate material on social media and other platforms.
The CM also directed action against one-wheeling and hooliganism by motorcyclists during the Eid holidays.
Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi informed the meeting that Eid prayers would be offered at 38,507 locations across the province.
