KARACHI: Suspected cocaine dealer Anmol Pinky was on Friday sent to prison on judicial remand in one murder and 19 narcotics cases.

The investigating officers (IOs) of the 20 cases from seven police stations — Baghdadi, Garden, Defence, Gizri, Darakhshan, SIU Central and Boat Basin — brought the suspect before judicial magistrates at the Judicial Complex inside the Karachi central prison amid high security.

At the outset, state prosecutor Shakeel Abbasi stated that she had remained in police custody for nine days and substantial evidence was available suggesting her involvement in heinous offences.

He added that a list had been recovered from the suspect which revealed that she was connected to “850 drug buyers”.

The prosecutor requested an extension in her physical remand, arguing that it was impossible to interrogate her in all the cases within just nine days.

However, the defence counsel opposed the request and submitted that the IOs had failed to show any progress in the cases, claiming that the suspect had been “continuously tortured at the hands of the police”.

They requested the court to send her to prison on judicial remand.

After hearing both sides, both magistrates sent the suspect to prison on judicial remand.

In his detailed order, Judicial Magistrate (South) Shahzad Khowaja noted that although the suspect had remained in police custody for nine days, the police failed to show any cogent progress and had only produced progress in the form of “verbal statements” and “self-made diaries”, which were not sufficient grounds to grant further physical remand.

Meanwhile, the Karachi police sought the Sindh government’s permission to send a police team to Punjab for the arrest of 15 accomplices of Pinky.

The accomplices included Pinky’s former husbands, her brothers and drug suppliers.
