KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Saturday claimed to have arrested a “key supplier of Ice” and an extortion suspect in separate operations in the metropolis.

An SIU statement said a joint operation conducted with a federal civilian intelligence agency on a tip-off led to the arrest of narcotics supplier Farooq alias Jani Abro during an encounter near the Lyari River. The suspect was taken into custody in wounded condition.

SIU SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro said the suspect was allegedly involved in supplying Ice, heroin and crystal methamphetamine in the city.

Police claimed that Farooq had been involved in the narcotics trade since 2019 along with his two brothers, Arif alias Pappu and Naeem. He was previously arrested in a robbery case by the Site Superhighway Industrial Area police in 2019 and later sent to jail. After his release, he allegedly resumed drug trafficking activities in New Karachi, Surjani Town, Allah Wali, Power House and surrounding areas along with his brothers.
