RAWALPINDI: Security guards of three government-run hospitals in the garrison city took to the streets in protest over non-payment of salaries.

The security guards blocked Murree Road in protest at the entrance of Benazir Bhutto Hospital and chanted slogans against the administration. The security guards refused to work in all wards in view of the protest.

The guards maintained that the attitude of the hospital administration towards non-payment of salaries is unacceptable. In the era of inflation, the stoves have become cold due to non-payment of salaries. They demanded that the Punjab government take immediate notice of the issue of salaries and warned that the protests would continue until the salaries are paid.

They said that the security of the hospitals is provided by the company, which has not paid salaries for several months. It has become difficult to meet household expenses; despite this, they are never paying salaries on time.

They claimed that the security guard receives a monthly salary of Rs25,000, while despite repeated demands for salaries, the hospital administration remains a silent spectator. The affected guards warned that if these salaries and all dues are not paid immediately, protests will be held across the city.
