SAHIWAL: As many as three suspects were killed and one suspect was arrested in injured condition in encounters with the Crime Control Department (CCD) and police in various parts of the province.
In one incident, the police claimed that a CCD mobile team led by Inspector Asif Nawaz spotted three dacoits looting villagers at Bajwa Chowk on the Begum Shahnawaz Road. Police claimed that on seeing the police van, the dacoits opened fire and the crossfire lasted 15 minutes.
Police recovered the body of suspect Muhammad Hussain Odah, a resident of Chichawatni along with a motorcycle, a 30-bore pistol, and Rs300 in cash.
CCD registered a case against the unknown fleeing suspects on the complaint of Inspector Asif Nawaz.
In the second incident, police claimed that a Kasowal Police team headed by Inspector Hasan Mumtaz was on routine patrol when they received a call about a dacoity. Acting on the information, police claimed to have intercepted three dacoits on a motorcycle near village 101.
Police claimed the suspects opened fire, leading to an exchange.
After the firing stopped, police claimed to have arrested Muhammad Mohsin, a resident of Amjad Town, Arifwala in injured condition. Police also claimed to have recovered stolen cash amounting to Rs350,000, a motorcycle, a wristwatch, and a 30-bore pistol. Police said the suspect’s two accomplices fled under cover of darkness and a case was registered on the complaint of Inspector Hasan Mumtaz.
TOBA TEK SINGH: An alleged robber-cum-murderer was killed late on Wednesday night in an encounter with the Jhang police.
Police claimed that a Waryamwala police party stopped three motorcyclists near Haveli Pulan on a picket but they fired at the police party and fled towards Mahluana Mor. Police chased them and an encounter took place on the Link Road of Murad Shah. After the firing stopped, police claimed to have found one accused dead, shot by his own accomplices, while two others escaped.
He was identified as Aamir Shahzad and police claimed he was a dacoit wanted in robberies, including a case of robbery-cum-murder.
KASUR: An alleged robber was gunned down in an encounter with a CCD team at the Qadiwind Road on Thursday in the limits of the Saddar Police station.
According to the police, a CCD team intercepted three suspects at the Qadiwind Road, who hid in the nearby fields and opened indiscriminate fire at the police party, which was retaliated.
After the exchange, the team recovered the dead body of one of the suspects, who was later identified as Habib alias Habibi, wanted by the Kasur Police in over 50 cases of robbery, house dacoities, murders during robberies and encounters with the police.
The Saddar Police lodged a case against his unidentified accomplices, who managed to escape.
DPO Aftab Ahmed Phularwan had established teams for the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
