Woman dies, 27 injured in two bus accidents

SARGODHA/BAHAWALPUR: A young woman died while 27 others, including children and women, suffered injuries when two buses overturned in separate incidents in Sargodha and Bahawalpur.

Reports said a 24-year-old woman from Khushab’s Satellite Town lost her life when a passenger bus of a private transport company, travelling from Lahore to Bhalwal, overturned on Luk Mor Shahpur Road.

The accident reportedly occurred due to speeding when the driver attempted to save a motorcyclist.

At least 11 passengers, including women and children, were injured. The injured were identified as Zahira Bibi (40), Hassan Bilal (35), Asia Bibi (20), Atiqur Rehman (20), Anas (2), Muhammad Aslam (50), Bushra Batool (37), Iftikhar Ahmed (45), Safdar Mahmood (25), Muhammad Asma Arshad Mahmood, Safdar Mahmood and Muhammad Usman (3) of Khushab.

Rescue teams shifted the injured to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, while police reached the scene and started an investigation.

In a separate incident near Sammsatta, about 20 kilometres from Bahawalpur, a school bus overturned into fields along the roadside.

Three schoolgirls sustained injuries, while 16 others, including two staff members, remained unharmed.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the accident occurred when the driver lost control while trying to avoid a loader rickshaw.

The injured were provided first aid at the scene and were reported to be out of danger.
