LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has vowed to safeguard press freedom and address professional and welfare-related concerns of journalists.

In a meeting with the office-bearers of the Pakistan English Media Association (PEMA) here on Friday, the speaker said the Punjab Assembly would play a proactive and constructive role in addressing the issues faced by working journalists.

He said the government values the media as an essential pillar of democratic governance, accountability, and transparency.

He further said the English media, since the inception of Pakistan, had played a significant role in shaping national discourse, promoting informed debate, and strengthening democratic institutions.

Acknowledging the challenges and sacrifices of journalists, he pledged that all possible measures would be taken to improve working conditions, ensure professional security, and enhance institutional support mechanism.

The participating journalists shared professional concerns and offered recommendations to strengthen collaboration between media and government institutions.
