QUETTA: Former senator Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Khan Raisani on Tuesday urged political workers to rise above internal divisions and rely on collective wisdom, political awareness and public support to counter “political opportunists”.

Speaking to a student delegation led by Pashtun Educational Development Council Chairman Shams Kakar, he said the ultimate objective of political struggle was to secure dignity and prosperity for future generations.

The delegation invited Mr Raisani to attend a cultural festival scheduled for Feb 14 at Islamia University, Bahawalpur.

Mr Raisani said he was striving for a peaceful political system aimed at addressing decades of exploitation, oppression, injustice and deprivation so that future generations could inherit a stable and prosperous society. He added that he had never supported acquiring power through “backdoor arrangements” and had consistently opposed such practices.

He said that across the world, political parties and governments pursued policies focused on the survival, dignity and prosperity of future generations, while in developed societies political goals were centred on empowering citizens economically and socially.
