KARACHI: Six suspected robbers were gunned down in an alleged encounter in Pak Colony on Thursday night.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza said that acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid on a hideout of criminals. He said that sensing danger the criminals opened fire and police retaliated.

He said when the guns fell silent six suspects were killed and two policemen suffered bullet wounds.

The DIG identified four of the deceased as Naqeebullah, Abdul Bari, Allah Dad and Mujeebullah. “They belonged to an Afghan dacoit gang comprising nine members,” he said.

He said that the suspects had killed three brothers during a house robbery in the Haroonabad area a couple of months ago.

He said the killed suspects had past criminal record as there were multiple FIRs registered against them.

The police claimed to have recovered five pistols and one rifle from their custody.

Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar praised the police for the action and vowed to continue action against criminal elements.

He asked the authorities to ensure best medical treatment for wounded policemen.

In another incident, a suspected robber allegedly involved in the killing of a police officer was gunned down in an encounter in Malir City on Thursday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Mohammed Jaffer alias Bobbi. He was booked in a case pertaining to the murder of police officer Khan Mohammed Abro.
