GILGIT: Singer Quratulain Balouch sustained injuries on Thursday night after being attacked by a rare Himalayan brown bear during a camping trip in Deosai National Park, prompting authorities to impose a ban on camping in the area, officials said.

The singer, popularly known as QB, was camping with two others for filming near Bara Pani when the bear attacked, injuring both of her arms with its claws and teeth. However, her cameraman and other companion remained unharmed, GB police spokesperson Ghulam Muhammad said.

Her screams eventually forced the bear to retreat, and wildlife staff stationed near the campsite quickly intervened, sources said. They administered first aid and transported her to RHQ Hospital Skardu, where doctors confirmed she is out of danger.

After the attack, the Gilgit-Baltistan government imposed an immediate ban on all camping in Deosai National Park.

“In future, no traveller or tourist will be able to camp at night,” GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq said in a statement, confirming the injured singer is out of danger.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The Himalayan brown bear, native to Deosai, often moves toward the Bara Pani area in search of food. Similar attacks have occurred in the past, Ghulam Muhammad said. The endangered bear population in the park is estimated to be just 77.

Stretching between Skardu and Astore districts, Deosai National Park is a major summer attraction for national and international tourists. Authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution and pitch camps closer to hotels or designated safe zones.
