ABOUT a couple of years ago, my family had moved to Quetta in search of opportu- nities that we were not getting in our own hometown. Thankfully, my brothers have got good jobs, and are better off finan- cially, and the family’s decision has been vindicated. However, the family is more worried now than it ever was. The frequent attacks in Balochistan against people from outside the province have forced us to think of going back to Larkana.

The fear of being the next prey to some brutal assault is prevalent across Balochistan. The volatile situation has terrorised people not only from other provinces, but also the local residents. People are living in continuous fear and shock. Moreover, due to Balochistan’s volatile situation almost all amusement parks remain completely or partly shut, which also adds to the negative feelings among the people.

As for the provincial government, it has done nothing apart from showing sheer apathy. The government in Balochistan should deploy due resources and tap the expertise of all the stakeholders to address the situation once and for all.
