QUETTA: The chairman of Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), Noorul Haq Baloch, has invited local investors to set up industrial units in the Gwadar Free Zone and get land on concessional rates.

In a meeting with leaders of the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), the GPA chairman informed businessmen that government plots would be allocated to businessmen and investors in the Gwadar Free Zone on priority basis.

“Investors playing a key role in Gwadar’s economic development will be provided with land at concessional rates besides provision of other facilities,” he said.

He said the government is offering a 23-year tax holiday, customs duty exemptions, modern infrastructure and international-standard amenities to investors in Gwadar.

The meeting also discussed the development of Gwadar Port, expansion of the deep-sea terminal and improvements in cargo handling.

The business leaders of GCCI urged the government to further simplify the investment process and extend incentives package.

Meanwhile, the GPA chairman also inspected various pumping stations and water storage tanks constructed for water supply to Gwadar city.

A spokesperson for Gwadar Port said the chairman reviewed the existing water supply system, observing the processes of water transmission, availability, and storage.

Mr Baloch announced that the long-awaited desalination plant would be made operational soon.
