BADIN: The 182nd death anniversary of Talpur army’s commander Hosh Muhammad Sheedi was commemorated here on Saturday by members of Sheedi community with traditional fervour.

The community’s prominent members, social activists, artists and youth participated enthusiastically in the commemorative programme of the brave general of Talpur army, who laid down his life fighting gallantly in the last battle with invading British army at Dubbo near Hyderabad, the then capital of Talpur-ruled Sindh, on March 24, 1843.

The commanding officer of the British forces, Sir Charles James Napier, showed great respect to the brave Hoshu for his gallantry and buried him with full military honours.

Sindh Chief Minister’s adviser, Ms Tanzila Qambrani, who was chief guest at the event, said that Hosh Muhammad Sheedi, lovingly called Hoshu by his admirers, was the pride of Sheedi community and a part of national identity. “It is our national duty to keep his memory alive,” she said.

She stressed that only through unity, education, political awareness and organised thinking could they achieve their goals. Zulfiqar Shaam, president of the Sheedi Active Jamaat Sindh that organised the programme, said that it was their mission to unite the community, promote collective thinking and pass on tales of sacrifices of Hoshu to future generations.

During the programme, individuals who had shown exceptional performance in various fields were presented recognition awards by the organisation.

The event concluded with a performance by renowned artist Abid Faqir, who sang national songs that stirred enthusiasm among the audience.

Shahid Qambrani, Sagar Sheedi, Shahneela Qambrani, Rasheed Qambrani, Mir Muhammad Sheedi, and others addressed the gathering.
