PESHAWAR: College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and Khyber Medical University have pledged to strengthen postgraduate medical education and training.

The mutual commitment came during a visit to KMU by Senior Vice-President of CPSP, Karachi, and Vice-Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore, Prof Khalid Masood Gondal on Friday.

Addressing the faculty at Alexander Fleming Hall, Dr Gondal emphasised the CPSP’s unwavering commitment to maintaining high standards in medical education and training across the country. He highlighted the various academic initiatives launched by CPSP, including a nationwide series of master-level degree workshops.

Prof Gondal shared that currently over 52,000 trainee doctors were being trained under CPSP across 88 disciplines. “To facilitate this training, 14 regional centres have been established across the country.”

He stated that CPSP firmly believed in self-reliance and that Pakistani doctors were not only in high demand worldwide but were also recognised for their international standard of training. He added that CPSP-trained doctors were serving as medical ambassadors of Pakistan globally. “A CPSP centre is also being established in Kabul, which will further enhance the institution’s international recognition.”

Dr Gondal informed the audience that CPSP graduates were delivering world-class healthcare services in the UK, Ireland, the USA, Europe, Australia, and several Middle Eastern countries.

Earlier, KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq welcomed the distinguished guest and gave him a tour of the under-construction KMU general hospital.

During a briefing, Prof Haq said that specialised departments in gastroenterology, breast cancer, blood cancer, diabetes, and rehabilitation were being established at the hospital. “These facilities will not only provide quality medical services to patients from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighbouring Afghanistan but will also offer international-standard training opportunities for young postgraduate trainee doctors.”
