Policeman martyred in Lakki Marwat terrorist attack

LAKKI MARWAT: A policeman embraced martyrdom in a fierce gunfight with terrorists which erupted after an attack on a police post in the remote Shadikhel area of Bittani subdivision here in the early hours of Thursday.

A police official said that the terrorists reportedly attacked the post with advanced light and heavy weapons in a bid to breach the building.

“It was a multi-pronged attack, but the law enforcers repulsed it effectively”, he said. The official said that an intense exchange of fire lasted for some time, during which Constable Noorfanullah was martyred.

He said that effective retaliation by the policemen thwarted the nefarious plan of terrorists and forced them to flee. The body of the martyred cop was taken to the police lines at the District Headquarters Complex Tajazai, where his funeral; prayers were offered with full official honours.

Deputy Commissioner Hameedullah Khan, District Police Officer Nazir Khan, SP Investigation Murad Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Habibullah Wazir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief & Human Rights) Sohail Ahmad Bukhari, Additional Assistant Commissioner Gohar Ali Khan, other police and line departments’ officers and relatives of the deceased cop attended the funeral prayers.

A smart police contingent presented a guard of honour to their fallen colleague while the district administration and police officers placed floral wreaths on his coffin.

The DPO paid tribute to the martyred policeman for offering supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. He said that sacrifices rendered by the police officials guaranteed peace and harmony in the region.

“These supreme sacrifices of our law enforcers will not go in vain”, he reiterated, adding that the police would continue operations till the last terrorist was eliminated.

The district police officer also visited the border police checkposts and checkpoints in the remote Shadikhel area of the tribal subdivision.

He met the police officers and jawans who bravely fought against the terrorists and foiled their nefarious plan to take over the post.

He praised the high morale and professionalism of policemen and said that the district police were fully prepared to counter the menace of terrorism vigorously.

The DPO conducted a detailed review of the security arrangements, duty management and available resources at the checkposts and issued instructions to make security arrangements more effective and tightened.
