KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has initiated a “large-scale cleanliness and maintenance operation” across 45 major drains in the city as part of its pre-monsoon strategy, said a statement on Thursday.

The statement added that, on the directives of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the campaign commenced at Soldier Bazar Nullah, Shershah Nullah, Haroonabad Nullah, Orangi Town Nullah and Gujjar Nullah.

“The operation involves comprehensive work including channelisation, degrading, and sparkling of the drainage systems to ensure proper water flow and prevent blockages,” it said.

The initiative aims to safeguard Karachi from potential urban flooding, preserve public infrastructure and ensure efficient drainage during the monsoon season.

“KMC teams are mobilised and working under strict monitoring to ensure completion of work within the given timelines. Such steps reflect the city’s commitment to responsible governance and public safety through timely intervention and effective municipal service delivery,” the statement quoted the mayor as saying.
