SAHIWAL: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested a public sector school teacher in Chichawatni for extorting Rs1 million from a family in exchange for securing a lecturer position for a young man through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).

Rashid Javed, of Al Fateh Town, alleged that Safder Bilal, elementary school teacher (EST) at Government Ria Niaz High School, Chichawatni, had convinced him that he could secure a lecturer in chemistry position for his brother, Zahid, and claimed to have connections within the PPSC and demanded Rs. 2 million for the job.

Javed transferred Rs1 million to Bilal through six separate transactions between August and September 2022. Despite Zahid’s failure to pass the PPSC written exam, his name was initially included on the list of successful candidates. The ACE on the basis of financial transactions arrested Bilal.

DEMAND: Parents of students at Government Junior MC Model Girls High School No 1 in Farid Town, Sahiwal, demand repairs to the school’s ceilings and roofs after a student was injured by falling plaster. Grade seven student Mahnoor Shahzad was struck by damaged plaster in her classroom. Although she received medical assistance, no substantial repairs have been carried out to address the deteriorating condition of the building.
