LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought a reply from the deputy commissioner on a petition by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) seeking permission to hold a public rally in the provincial metropolis.

Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh heard the petition filed by PTI Lahore Vice President Akmal Khan Bari challenging the alleged denial of permission for the rally.

The judge directed a government lawyer to submit a reply on behalf of the DC and other respondents within a week.

Advocate Khurram Latif Khosa appeared on behalf of the petitioner, saying the PTI wanted to hold a rally at Minar-i-Pakistan on Aug 14 and had submitted a request for it but it received no response.

The lawyer assured the court that the rally would be peaceful and in accordance with the law. He argued that holding rallies was the right of every political party, but the PTI was being deprived of this fundamental right.

The lawyer asked the court to allow permission for the rally at Minar-i-Pakistan.
