KARACHI: A judicial magistrate has remanded a man in police custody for allegedly attacking his wife and three-year-old daughter with acid in Baldia Town.

The investigating officer (IO) produced Muhammad Amin before the judicial magistrate (West), seeking his physical custody for further interrogation.

The IO informed the court that the suspect allegedly threw acid on his wife and their child, adding that the woman — who is a trainee police officer in Balochistan — had suffered 33 per cent burns on her body.

He further stated that acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended the suspect within the jurisdiction of the Eidgah police station.

After hearing the IO, the court remanded the suspect until Saturday and directed the IO to submit a progress report at the next hearing.

According to the FIR, the trainee woman police constable in Balochistan police, Iqra, reported that she had come to Karachi for a few days on vacation. She further stated that on the day of the incident, she was on her way to her mother’s house to collect some belongings with her husband.

When she reached Khursheed graveyard, her husband stopped as he wanted to offer prayers at her mother’s grave. At that time, she also had her three-year-old baby girl in her arms.

The suspect immediately took out a bottle of acid from the bike and threw it on Iqra and the baby, injuring both of them.

A case was registered at the Saeedabad police station under Section 336-B (punishment for hurt by corrosive substance) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
