GUJRANWALA: A joint team of the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) and police arrested the guarantor of Ramzan Steel Furnace which owes the company more than Rs 26 million in power dues default.

Since the furnace owner Amanullah was away from home, his son Ehsan, who is a guarantor in the case, was arrested.

This is the second such major power theft case in the Gepco region. Earlier, a known manufacturer of ceramic tiles, sanitary ware and paints was arrested for a major default.

Amanullah had promised to clear dues in two days when police last raided his house.

Meanwhile, during the ongoing drive 30 more electricity thieves were caught on Sunday.

The number of power theft cases has now risen to 2,211 with 1,354 arrests.
