KARACHI: Mayor-elect of Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab and mayors- and deputy mayors-elect of five municipal corporations in the province — Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpurkhas — are set to take oath of their office on Monday (today).

Besides, the oath-taking ceremonies of chairmen-elect and vice chairmen-elect of more than 200 municipal committees, town committees and district councils will also be held on Monday across the province.

In Karachi, the oath-taking ceremony will be held in Polo Ground in the evening. Sindh Election Commissioner Ejaz Anwar Chauhan will administer the oath from Barrister Wahab and deputy mayor-elect Salman Murad Baloch of the Pakistan Peoples Party.

The administrations of all seven city districts have also announced oath-taking ceremonies of elected chairmen of 25 town municipal corporations (TMC) for Monday at different times.

The PPP enjoys majority as it won chairmen and vice chairmen slots in 13 TMCs, followed by nine of Jamaat-i-Islami and three of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

The oath-taking ceremonies of TMC chairmen and vice chairmen will be held in offices of respective deputy and assistant commissioners.

In Hyderabad, PPP’s Kashif Shoro and Muhammad Sagheer will take oath as mayor and deputy mayor.

In Larkana, PPP’s Anwar Ali Lohar and Muhammad Ameen Sheikh will take oath as mayor and deputy mayor.

In Sukkur, Arsalan Islam Sheikh and Muhammad Irshad Mughal are set to take oath today as mayor and deputy mayor, respectively.

Muhammad Rasheed Bhat and Mubashir Ali will take oath as mayor and deputy mayor in Shaheed Benazirabad.

In Mipurkhas, Abdul Rauf and Junaid Buland will take oath as mayor and deputy mayor on Monday.
