BAHAWALPUR: The Civil Lines police have registered a case against four ASIs of the Punjab Highway Patrolling Police (PHPP) and a clerk in a fraud case.

The case has been registered on the complaint of DSP Nasir Ghauri.

The DSP told Dawn that the case had been registered against ASIs Saiful Malook, Tanveer Iqbal, Nazim Hussain and Muhammad Wahid besides ACR clerk Aftab Ahmed for allegedly preparing fake ACRs.

The DSP said the ACR clerk fraudulently prepared reports with fake signatures of the officers and sent them to the police headquarters in Lahore.

On suspicion, SSP Hammad Raza Qureshi conducted an inquiry and found signatures of the officers fake.

ROBBERS’ GANG: The city circle police claim to have unearthed an inter-district gang of robbers who snatched cars and 54 motorcycles worth millions.

ASP city circle Dr Uzair Ahmed told a press conference that police had arrested Taimoor Sumro and Zaiba Niazi and were conducting raids to arrest their accomplices.

The police teams comprise the station house officers (SHOs) of Cantonment, Civil Lines, Kotwali, Baghdad and Civil Lines police stations.

The recovered cars and motorcycles were handed over to their owners after the press conference.

The ASP expressed hope that more recoveries from the arrested persons would be made.
