KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead in an alleged encounter in Orangi Town on Friday, police said.

They said that two suspects snatched a motorbike from a man at gunpoint in the Ghaziabad area and while fleeing looted another citizen near Shah Faisal Chowk within the remit of the Pakistan Bazaar police station.

They said that the bike they snatched developed some fault and could not start. As they tried to snatch another motorbike, the citizen put up resistance. A constable in civvies, who just got off a police mobile van after performing his duty, challenged the suspects and also called the reinforcement.

The alleged robbers started firing in an attempt to escape. But the police chased them and in an ensuing encounter, one suspect was gunned down while another escaped.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the suspect was identified as Sanaullah, 26. Originally hailed from Batgram, he was living in Pathan Colony in Manghopir, the police said.

The police said he had a past criminal record. The police seized one 9mm pistol, two snatched mobile phones and one motorbike from the crime scene.

Stray bullet kills 10-year-old girl

A 10-year-old girl was killed by a stray bullet in Malir City. Dua was asleep along with her father Mohammed Aslam on the roof of their house near Aanso Goth late on Thursday night when a bullet fired from unknown direction hit her in the head, said area SHO Shahrukh Shaikh.

Assuming that a stone had hit her, the father took her to a private hospital where it transpired that a bullet hit her. She died during treatment.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

Man gunned down

A young man was gunned down in BaldiaTown-4 late on Thursday night.

Medina Colony police said Waqas Irshad was killed over some personal dispute near Ayesha Masjid.

The body was shifted to the Dr Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.
