LAKKI MARWAT: Bannu deputy commissioner Mohammad Zubair Niazi has asked the police to furnish him with the data relating to human trafficking, kidnapping of women and child labour.

He issued the directions during a meeting attended by the officials of the district administration, police, prosecution, labour and social welfare departments and members of civil society.

The participants decided to launch an awareness campaign about prevention of human trafficking.

On the occasion, Mr Niazi said his administration had formed a special team to initiate action against those involved in recruiting professional beggars and child labourers. He said the team would submit its report weekly with proposals to stop human trafficking and deal with those involved in the illegal act.

CHEATING MATERIAL SEIZED: The district administration officials seized cheating material from bookshops and photostat outlets in Lakki Marwat the other day.

The officials paid surprise visits to different outlets and seized pocket-sized guidebooks and other cheating material.

The action was launched following complaints that booksellers and photostat machine owners were selling cheating material to students appearing in the secondary school certificate examinations.

Assistant commissioner Tariq Mehmood along with additional assistant commissioners Ishaq Ali and Waheed Mughal inspected examination centres in parts of the district to ensure transparent conduct of examinations.

Meanwhile, elementary and secondary education department special secretary Amer Afaq paid surprise inspection visits to various examination centres in Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts.

He appreciated the district education officers and schools’ heads for making satisfactory arrangements at the exam centres to provide the students with ease of attempting papers.

He asked the staff to ensure transparent and cheating-free examinations.

BOOKED: The police booked contractors and traders for running an illegal cattle market in Miryakhel area of Bannu the other day.

An official of tehsil municipal administration said the market was established without the competent authority’s approval.

“Some influential people were involved in collecting illegal fees from the traders at the market,” the official said, adding the tehsil municipal officer had approached the police for registration of case against the contractors and cattle traders.

A police official said they had booked 90 people for running the cattle market illegally.
