BAJAUR: Seven children were injured here when an explosive device exploded in Tarkho area of Mamond tehsil on Sunday, police and rescue officials said.

District police officer Abdul Samad Khan told reporters that the incident occurred when children were sitting around a fire to keep themselves warm. He said the unseen explosive device was apparently hidden in dry twigs.

Mr Samad said he had ordered investigation into the incident.

Soon after the explosion, local residents and Rescue 1122 personnel arrived at the site and shifted the wounded children to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar, for treatment.

An official of Rescue 1122 told Dawn that all the children were in stable condition. They were identified as Waqas Khan, 15, Hayatullah, 14, Musa Khan, 15, Jafar Khan, 16, Abid Khan, 13, Umair, 14, and Umar Khan, 15.
