ISLAMABAD: As many as 198 more people were diagnosed with dengue fever in Islamabad and Rawalpindi districts District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia said 57 cases were reported from rural areas of the capital and 66 from urban areas. A total of 22 patients were admitted at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) followed by 18 at Federal General Hospital, 16 at Holy Family Hospital, four at District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, three at Capital Hospital and two at Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) while the remaining 58 were admitted in different private hospitals, he said.

The DHO further said 14 cases were reported from Tarlai, followed by 10 each from Tarnol and Alipur, eight each from Koral and Sohan, three each from Bhara Kahu and Rawat and one from Chirrah.

The tally of dengue fever cases in the capital has reached 3,206, Dr Zia said, adding 1,881 cases surfaced in rural areas and 1,325 in urban areas.

During the last 24 hours, 820 residual spray and 135 fogging activities were conducted in different areas of the capital to prevent fever spread and eliminate potential breeding sites of the larvae, he said, said, adding separate teams found 628 potential breeding sites of the dengue larvae and eliminated them.

Fogging was carried out at Prime Minister Colony under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Secretariat Aneel Saeed.

Separate teams of the health office visited 1,745 houses at different union councils and three among them were found with stagnant water, the DHO said, adding the teams also found 84 open containers and two among them had larvae.

Rawalpindi

As many as 75 dengue patients were brought to three government-run hospitals from the garrison city.

According to data, 45 new patients landed at Holy Family Hospital (HFH), 18 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and 12 in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

As many as 205 patients were admitted in three hospitals including 123 in HFH, 28 in BBH and 55 in DHQ Hospital. As many as 93 patients were discharged from hospitals during the last 24 hours. A total of 2,201 patients have been discharged from three hospitals so far.

On the other hand, district authorities checked 149,939 spots in the district during the last two weeks from Oct 13 to Oct 27 and found dengue larvae in 206 houses and 436 outdoor areas. Most of these larvae were found in city and cantonment areas and none were found in Murree, Kahuta and Kotli Sattian.
