BAJAUR: A teenage boy died after a stray bullet hit him near Khar, local residents and Rescue 1122 officials said on Saturday.
They said the incident happened in Adil Chowk area on the outskirts of Khar town, the headquarters of Bajaur district.
They added that Maaz Khan was standing near his house when a bullet fired from some unknown location struck him.
Amajd Khan, a rescue official, said the boy was immediately shifted to the district headquarters hospital, but he could not survive.
Quoting the residents and doctors, a police official said the bullet hit the boy’s head which caused his death. He said efforts were underway to trace the location from where the bullet was fired.
Separately, the police claimed to have foiled a terror bid by seizing arms and explosives hidden near a government high school in Lovi Sam, some14kms from Khar town, according to a statement issued the other day.
Following information that suspected persons had placed arms and explosives near the school, a team of bomb disposal squad moved to the area and recovered them.
The seizure included 10 hand grenades, 14 fuses, three home-made bombs, one kilogramme explosives, half a kg potassium powder, three walkie-talkie sets, a battery and a telephone set.
According to the statement, a case was registered against the unknown suspects in Lovi Sam police station.
Meanwhile, the security forces arrested a group of people for trying to smuggle arms and drugs into Bajaur from across the border, according to a statement issued by the Frontier Corps on Friday.
It said FC personnel arrested the smugglers during a raid in Gardawa locality of Mamond tehsil along the Pak-Afghan border. The action was taken on a tip-off.
