BAHAWALPUR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday arrested two persons for alleged online fraud worth millions.

According to FIA sources, Adeel Siddiqui and Muhammad Aqeel had deprived some people of millions of rupees through online fraud. The agency registered cases against them and arrested them in a raid from Multan. The suspects have been shifted to the FIA lock-up in Bahawalpur.

ELECTION: The Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has nominated five candidates to contest the election of Cantonment Board for five local wards.

According to the sources, those nominated are Rehan Bin Javed, who was earlier elected on a PML-N ticket during previous CB election, Ijaz Bhatti, Akhtar Chohan, Abdul Hamid Baloch and Akhtar Khan Baloch. They had filed their nomination papers with the returning officer (RO) on the last day of filing of papers on Thursday.

Cantonment Board RO Rana Ramiz Shafqat in a press release on Friday said 49 candidates had filed their nomination papers to contest the election for the five seats of the board in five city wards. He said the scrutiny of the papers would be done from July 31 to Aug 3.

STUDENTS: Students of the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) continued their protest on the roads on Friday, demanding online exams instead of on-campus exams.

However, IUB spokesman Shehzad Khalid claimed that the issue had been resolved as the protesters had been assured of some of concessions but the examination would be held on campus, in accordance with the policy of the government.

According to Rizwan Majid of the IUB, who negotiated with the protesting students said, ‘grade protection policy’ would be enforced for the students appearing in the on-campus examinations.

Some reports said the protesters included groups belonging to political parties also and many of them were planning to extend their protest on the issue.

The blockade of almost all main roundabouts till late night on Thursday created inconvenience for the public, especially for the motorists.
