Two cops held for involvement in drugs sale

GUJRAT: As a part of internal accountability drive, Gujrat police claimed to have booked and arrested at least two police officials for being involved in selling of drugs.

A spokesman for Gujrat police said District Police Officer (DPO) Akhtar Farooq had launched the internal accountability within the rank and file of the district police.

In connection with the drive, he said a police official namely Muhammad Imran of Sook Kalan village was arrested and a case lodged against him with the city’s civil lines police station.

He said at least 2,855 grams of hash had been recovered from him and during the initial investigation the suspect had also revealed the members of his network in the light of which police was working to capture the other suspects.

The arrested police official has also been suspended and charge sheeted as well for further punitive action by the department.

Similarly another police official namely Nehal Habeeb of Hardaspur village has also been arrested in a case of selling drugs.

Dinga police have registered a case against the arrested suspect and also recovered hash from him.

The said official had been posted at police lines and found involved in such activities.

The spokesman said that nobody would be allowed to exploit the police uniform for the nefarious designs and criminal activities.
