Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Thursday that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent ‘major surgery’ at the Sharif Medical City Hospital in Lahore.

In a post on the social media platform X, Aurangzeb said: “Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent major surgery at Sharif Medical City Hospital, after which she has been shifted home.”

She added that despite being in the hospital, the chief minister monitored security, cleanliness and other administrative matters pertaining to the province on the first day of Eid.

Responding to Aurangzeb’s post, Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja prayed for Maryam’s health and well-being.

In November 2024, CM Maryam was admitted to the Sharif Medical City Hospital due to health issues. At the time, Aurangzeb said that she had had her thyroid checked.

Last month, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari had responded to reports regarding CM Maryam battling cancer, saying this was “absolutely false news”.

“Such false propaganda with someone’s life is condemnable,” she said.

It should be mentioned that the journalist to whom the claims were attributed had later said that he had not made any such statements about CM Maryam’s health.
