ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Qazi Jamilur Rehman on Monday claimed that police had recovered looted items worth Rs169.7 million from criminal elements during the last two months.

Addressing a ceremony held to return the recovered valuables to their owners, the IGP appreciated the efforts of the DIG (operations) and his team in recovering valuables, including vehicles, motorbikes, gold ornaments, cash, mobile phones and laptops.

The police chief said 190 people were arrested for their involvement in robberies and snatching cases and police recovered cash Rs27.1 million, two vehicles and seven bikes from them.

He said 27 criminal gangs were busted and 146 people involved in burglaries were held and Rs25.2 million recovered from them.

He said police also recovered 26 bikes from 137 snatchers. Another 15 vehicles were also recovered and police heads of the districts concerned had been intimated about these recoveries.

Islamabad police, the IGP said, also arrested 102 proclaimed offenders wanted to police in murder and kidnapping cases while 129 court absconders were also held. He said four murder cases were also resolved during this period and eight alleged assassins were arrested.

Later, the IGP told the media that the capital police had started a campaign to enhance coordination with citizens and resolve their issues.
