SIALKOT: Unidentified people vandalised fiber statues of an old man and a young girl displayed at Daska city’s College Chowk late on Tuesday.

A local philanthropist with the permission of the local administration had placed the statues near the Government Boys Degree College, Daska, a few months ago which showed the old man asking the girl to seek knowledge.

Dawn learnt some conservative circles had shown their reservations over the display of statues and criticised the Daska administration for the act.

On Wednesday morning, people awoke to see the statues vandalised and their remains littered near a shop.

Local philanthropist Ahmed Faqrooq Sahi said he spent Rs600,000 on these statues to promote women’s education.

He said that he submitted a formal application with the Daska City police for the registration of a case against the suspects for demolishing these statues.

The police officials said they were investigating the case.
