Powerpuff Girls live-action series

The CW (Television Network) has announced a pilot order for the live-action Powerpuff Girls series. Based on the Cartoon Network series created by Craig McCracken, the new series sees the pint-sized superheroes as disillusioned twentysomethings, who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?

The project hails from writers and executive producers Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody, with Cody executive producing via Vita Vera Films.

The animated series ran for six seasons and 78 episodes between 1998 and 2005. “The Powerpuff Girls Movie” was released in 2002, while a rebooted animated series began airing on Cartoon Network in 2016.

Nasa’s rover lands safely on Mars

Nasa’s Mars rover Perseverance made a dangerous, robotic landing on Mars, starting a high-tech mission to hunt for signs of life in an ancient lakebed.

The landing marked the fifth Nasa rover to successfully reach Mars. The mission is the first of three that may return rock samples to Earth in about 10 years. The rover sent a series of brief, basic signals back to Earth. The spacecraft, launched from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, travelled more than 290 million miles over 203 days to get to the Red Planet, and its landing was monitored by scientists all over the world.

The agency expects to receive transmissions that include video, sounds and photos recorded during descent and landing. Perseverance is “the biggest, heaviest, and most complex rover we’ve ever built” and the Jezero Crater destination “the most dangerous landing site we’ve ever attempted, said Alan Chen, Nasa’s lead engineer for the landing process.

Is Johnny Depp the new Joker?

Johnny Depp transforms into The Joker to take on Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne in new artwork for Matt Reeves-directed The Batman.

Johnny Depp has been rumoured for the Joker throughout most of his career. Prior to Heath Ledger being announced as The Dark Knight’s clown prince of crime, Depp was a fan favourite for the part. Now, it seems like this decades-old bit of fan casting might finally bear fruit. Warner Bros. have begun eyeing actors for the role in sequels to The Batman and Depp is one of the prime candidates for the Joker.

In the artwork on Instagram, the actor certainly looks the part. Let’s see how Reeves would adapt the villain for his grim vision of Gotham City.
