There are lots of ways to reuse and recycle newspapers. Since it’s been very long, we used newspaper in making a craft, today is a perfect day to bring out your creativity in making some cup coasters from newspaper. Let’s begin:

Things you need:

  1. Old newspaper

  2. White glue

  3. Water colours (optional)

  4. Paint brushes (optional)

Directions:

  1. As most of you know, newspapers come in two large joint pages, tear them into two single pages, then, cut these single pages into half.

  2. To make the reeds from newspaper, take the half from the single page of newspaper and start folding it diagonally, you can use a thin stick for folding, picture 2.

  3. When you reach the end, dab some white glue and fold it firmly, picture 3.

  4. For a three-inch cup coaster, you will need at least five newspaper reeds, picture 4.

  5. Flatten the reed with a pencil or a scale, this will help make it a perfect coil, picture 5.

  6. Start folding the reed tightly, making it into a coil, remember to put some glue while folding, picture 6; (for best results use hot glue in this part but take help from an elder).

  7. When a reed reaches the end, paste another and start making a coil, picture 7.

  8. I used five such newspaper reeds for making a three-inch coaster, picture 8.

  9. If you want the coaster colourful, use water colours, pictures 9 and 10.
