LAHORE: The police claimed on Sunday to have registered 78 cases and sealed 582 shops in various areas of the city over violation of coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the last two days.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Zulfiqar Hameed directed the officers to take strict action against the people involved in violation of the SOPs. All the divisional police officers were directed to inspect their respective areas to ensure the implementation of the SOPs.

The officers conducted surprise raids in 155 markets of the city and sealed 582 shops over violations. Challan tickets were issued to 717 motorcyclists for not wearing masks and 1,469 shopkeepers were issued warnings.

CCPO Hameed said the government’s guidelines issued to control coronavirus would be strictly implemented and action taken against violators. People should wear masks and implement coronavirus SOPs for the safety of their loved ones and others.

He said people should take precautionary measure to remain safe from the virus.

Murder: A man was shot dead allegedly by his brother over a property dispute in Shafiqabad on Sunday.

Police claimed that Shehzad was sleeping on the roof of his ancestral house in Shafiqabad when his younger brother, Imtiaz, arrived there with a pistol.

Both brothers exchanged harsh words over their ancestral property at which Imtiaz pulled out his gun and shot at and injured his brother, and fled from the scene.

Shehzad was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

Police reached the spot and shifted the body to morgue for autopsy. They later registered a case, started investigation and were conducting raids to arrest the culprit.
