Netflix to release Matilda musical

Netflix is reportedly working on a screen adaptation of Matilda the Musical, alongside Sony Pictures. According to some reports, Roald Dahl’s much-loved book, which was the basis for the 1996 hit children’s film, will once again be made into a movie.

Matilda captured everyone’s imagination after the young bookworm, played by Mara Wilson, who was mistreated by her parents, finds out she has telekinetic powers. Her resulting friendship with her teacher, Miss Honey, brings some happiness to her life after her talents are finally appreciated instead of being ignored.

The new film is reportedly set to have a full theatrical and home video run in the UK before being available for streaming all over the world, according to sources. It was previously said, Sony’s TriStar division is devoting resources to making movies ‘belonging exclusively or almost exclusively to Netflix’.

Netflix had also previously said it would adapt Roald Dahl’s children’s stories, including Matilda, The BFG and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, into animated series.
